David Duke Carr is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 12 seasons. He was born on July 21, 1979, in Bakersfield, California, and played college football at Fresno State University.
Carr was selected as the first overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2002 NFL Draft, making him the first player in the franchise's history. He spent the majority of his career with the Texans, playing for them from 2002 to 2006. He also played for the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants, and the San Francisco 49ers.
Carr's NFL career statistics include over 14,000 passing yards, 65 touchdown passes, and a completion percentage of 59.7%. While he was considered a talented quarterback early in his career, he struggled with inconsistency and was prone to turnovers.
Since retiring from football in 2012, Carr has worked as a television analyst and commentator for the NFL Network and co-founded a performance analytics company called Carr Elite. He is also involved in charitable organizations, including the Carr Cares Foundation, which provides support for families affected by childhood illness or injury.
